Ambulance Operations – Understanding the Commissioning Landscape

The issue:
The commissioning landscape in both the NHS and Local Authorities is constantly changing and charitable organisations can sometimes find it difficult to keep abreast and respond to these changes.

The Brief:

St John Ambulance appointed Siskin to act as a fresh pair of eyes to support a better understanding of the evolving commissioning landscape and develop the charity’s Ambulance Operations offer.

Our Approach:

Siskin undertook a comprehensive review of commissioners and competitors. We worked with leaders across the ambulance sector of the organisation and met with a range of staff to understand their views. We delivered:

• A review of current national and CCG level commissioning arrangements across the ambulance sector
• A financial summary of current national and comparative CCG level investment in ambulance services
• An in-depth analysis of opportunities
• A set of recommendations for short, medium, and longer-term consideration
• A comprehensive report for the Board of Trustees
• A cross departmental workshop to explain the findings and engage the relevant teams
• An overall offer and key messages based on our findings to support the marketing and communications for ambulance operations
• An animation aimed at key commissioners
• Hands on business and development support
• Co-ordination of comprehensive bid libraries and new business tender writing support

And as a result:

• The report produced by Siskin is being used by St John Ambulance to inform new business development and marketing and communications strategies
• Quality scores for St John Ambulance tenders have increased

Siskin are now working with St John Ambulance exploring the new business opportunities highlighted in the report.
